Yale locally suspended 17 freshmen last week for serious violations of regulations.

Terms of the suspension forbade the students either to attend class or eat in the dining rooms. The banishment was left incomplete. The banishment was left incomplete, however, as the punished freshmen were permitted to enter their rooms. They were also allowed to use the library facilities, and finally, to use the gym.

Yale officials suspended the students because they were guilty of having "cut too many gym periods" last fall and failing to make them up.

Several faculty members expressed considerable concern, however, about the academic prohibitions imposed by these regulations. One dean said that he hoped that some other means might be found "to encourage freshmen to fulfill their gym requirements without restricting their academic activities.
