Band Orders Drum For May Delivery

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The University Band has ordered a new bass drum, and expects delivery by the beginning of May. The 72-by-28-inch drum will be the largest in the United States, thus regaining the distinction temporarily lost to the University of Florida.

Competitive bids between manufacturers have reduced the cost of the drum from an original estimate of over $1,600 to around $1,000. The new drum will be built by Slingerland, Inc., of Chicago.

The reduced cost has cut the sum needed from student contributions from $1,500 to $600. And the drive for this amount has already passed the halfway mark, with $321.87 collected after one week of dining hall solicitation.
