The varsity squash team lost its first match 4-1 to an M.I.T. varsity-faculty squad yesterday in a contest which also opened the "A" division of the Metropolitan Squash Racquets League.
Only the Crimson's number one man, Ben Hecksher, won his match against Tech. Heckscher, who was rated third in the League behind Henri Salaun and Henry Foster last year, outran his opponent to win in three easy games, 15-6, 15-5, and 15-9.
In second and third positions, Cal Place and Captain Pete Milton carried their opponents to five games, each losing by 3 to 2.
Fourth man Roger Cortesi's accurate shooting challenged his opponent's superiority, but was not enough to win. Cortesi was defeated 15-8, 18-15, and 15-11. Martin Heckscher, fifth man in the line-up, bowed to Herbert Stahl of M.I.T. by scores of 15-8, 18-16, and 15-11.
