The junior varsity football team, with seven sophomores and only one regular player from last year in the starting lineup, will close its season today against the Yale jayvees in New Haven.
Last year's contest ended with a 7-6 victory for the Crimson, but this year's team is definitely "below par," according to Coach Norm Shepard. After an opening victory against Dean Academy, the team has lost three straight to Tufts, Dartmouth, and Princeton.
A week ago Shepard saw the Eli junior varsity whip Princeton, so he is not too optimistic about his team's chances. Junior Jack Evjy at right end is the only holdover from last year's lineup.
The Crimson will run from a T-formation, with sophomore Jack Hennessy calling signals. Captain Ray Henry will start at right halfback with two sophomores, Al Steiner and Vic McGuire, playing left halfback and fullback. Shepard calls Steiner the team's best runner.
Four sophomores will start in the line. They are Joe George at left tackle, left guard Ed Harding, center Mike Pritchard, and Ted Raymond, right tackle. Others in the line besides Evjy are senior Joe Stein at left end, Bill Parkinson, a junior, at right guard
