Bob Pickett's young and able varsity wrestlers meet the University of Pennsylvania tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Block bone for their first home meet of the season. Before Christmas the team rolled over Tufts and Williams in away matches.
The Penn team which Pickett's squad faces is substantially the same one which the Crimson defeated last winter, 19 to 9. Though this year's varsity is relatively inexperienced with big-time competition--five of the eight starters are sophomores--Pickett expects no great difficulty with the Philadelphia. Penn has already lost a close match to Lafayette, 14 to 12.
The sophomore contingent, led by unlimited Bob Wynne, who placed third in his class at this Christmas' Wilksbury tournament, moved up from last year's undefeated freshman team. The group includes Tatsuo Arima, undefeated last year at 123 pounds; Phil Andrews, at 137 who has already won his first match of this season; Mike Murray, who last year at 157 topped his last four opponents; Bob Gilmore, undefeated in Crimson competition, who is wrestling tomorrow in unaccustomed 167 pound class; and Wynne.
Junior Injuries
Captain Ken Culbert, last season's individual high scorer on the varsity, and senior Len Miller will wrestle in 177 and 147 classes, respectively. The only active junior wrestler will be Ed Keating at 130. Keating went undefeated last season but has lost two matches thus far.
The junior deficiency is partly due to the sidelining of Dick Hook and Frank Baker with injuries, and to the sophomore proficiency.
The freshman are not scheduled.
