With three sophomores in the starting lineup, Harvard will attempt to break its 12-games Ivy League losing streak tonight when it meets a very strong Pennsylvania quintet at the IAB. The varsity game is scheduled to begin about 8 p.m.
The Quakers, perhaps the top contenders for the League title, defeated Yale last night in their Ivy opener. Previous to last night, Penn had won six and lost one, as overtime game to Pittsburgh.
Crimson catch Floyd Wilson, whose team has lost all three of its League contests and six of its total nine games, will start sophomores Phil Haughey, Bob Barnett, and either Dick Hurley or Neil Muncaster to instill some scoring punch in the squad. Seniors Harry Sacks and Roger Bulger are the other starters.
Haughey, a 6-4 forward, has improved tremendously since the start of the season and ranks third on the team in scoring with 46 points in seven games. Bulger is second with 54, and Sacks is well out in front with 150.
Penn, perennially one of the powers in the Ivy League, anticipates a team almost as good as the Ernie Beck quintet which won the League title in 1953. Last year the Quakers finished in third place.
Leading the Pennsylvanians are 6-5 Bart Leach, 6-4 Joe Sturgis, and 5-11 Karl Hoagland. Last year, Penn defeated the Crimson 87-46, and 92-73. Included among its victims this season are Purdue, Navy, Iowa, and Michigan State.
The Crimson squad will enter this game without the services of senior Rollin Perry, who has left the team, and Dick Manning, who will not play until February.
