Protests Overruled On Mather's Speech

Despite protests from the Americanism Committee of the Harrison County American Legion, Kirtley F. Mather, professor of Geology, emeritus, spoke last night in a Houston, Texas, junior high school auditorium.

The committee objected to Mather's use of the auditorium, alleging that he had citations of membership in 32 groups listed as Communist fronts by the House Un-American Activities Committee.

The charges were delivered yesterday morning to school board president James Delmar. "If the Houston Museum of Natural Science finds Mather acceptable," Delmar said, "I don't see why I should get into this."
