Faculty Committee to Set Policy for Office Of Student Placement

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The Faculty of Arts and Sciences voted yesterday to establish a standing committee on Student Placement. The plan for the committee was submitted by Delmar Leighton '19, Dean of Students.

The committee will serve as a counsel in general and overall placement policy, but will leave specific details to the Placement Office. Leighton said that this move is one of several aimed at bringing the Faculty of Arts and Sciences into closer contact with the problems of the students.

President Pusey will name the members of the faculty group in the near future. Although Louis L. Newby, Jr., director of the Office of Student Placement, will attend and be active in meetings, he will not be an official member.

This committee is one of several which have been created in order to bring the faculty into close contact with administrative departments. Other such committees include those on Phillips Brooks House and Admissions.

The Office of Student Placement was originated by John W. Teele '27 in 1946. New by became director last fall. His primary purpose is to place graduating seniors in jobs.
