Crimson Squash Team Wins, 9-0

The varsity squash team finished pre-examination intercollegiate play Saturday with an easy 9-0 victory over Wesleyan. In another 9-0 match, the Yardling B team won.

In three encounters this season, the Crimson varsity has lost only one match. Coach Jack Barnaby's next opponent, however, is Navy, perennially one of the East's top teams. The squash team will meet the Cadets at Annapolis, Feb. 5.

Only one Crimson player, number five man Cal Place, even lost a game, and he swept by Al Hobson fairly easily, 15-10, 14-15, 15-6, 18-15. Crimson number one man Ben Heckscher overwhelmed Wesley Jackson in the first and third sets, 15-1 and 15-4. He was pressed only in the middle game and then he ran out, 15-12.

Guy Paschal, at two, took Bob Loos, 15-8, 15-8, 15-12, while Captain Bill Wister, who lost the only match of the season last week against Tech, outmatched Mike Phelps, 15-2, 15-8, 15-1.

Four Bob Brown, six Bancroft Wheeler, and nine Mike Levinson met little opposition in sweeping their matches. In the seven and eight positions, Cardinals Dave Marshall and Larry Shapiro gave Pete Milton and Roger Cortesi some trouble before bowing, 15-10, 15-8, 15-14, and 15-4, 15-9, 17-15, respectively.

Freshmen Triumph

In the freshman matches, the top three Crimson players won convincingly. Ken McIntosh at one beat Russ Hill, 15-5, 15-1, 15-4; two Larry Sears defeated Jack Corbutt, 15-5, 15-7, 15-4; and Henry Cortesi won over Tom Banfield 15-5, 15-1, 15-6.

John Davis at four, Robert Magowan, five, George Leness at six and seven John McGinley also won their matches in straight sets, but eight man Joe Walker and nine Robyn Dawes each lost a game. Walker beat John Hayes 14-18, 15-11, 18-15, 15-10, and Dawes topped Fred Alexander, 13-15, 15-9, 15-12, and 15-5.
