8 Takeaways From Harvard’s Task Force Reports
A hot and cold varsity basketball team goes after its second Ivy League win Saturday against favored Princeton. The game will start at 2 p.m. on the Tigers' homes court.
Coach Floyd Wilson will open with the same team that started Wednesday night against Amherst. Phil Haughey and Dick Hurley will start at the forwards, Harry Seeks will play center, with Roger Bulger and Bob Barnett at the guard posts.
Princeton's record is a mediocre two wins, seven losses, but five of the defeats have been at the hands of strong teams from the Mid-West. In Ivy League play the Tigers have split two games, easily beating a strong Dartmouth team and losing by seven points to Pennsylvania.
Leading the Princeton offensive is Hall Hasbestad, a 6-1 forward, who last year led the Ivy League in scoring. John DeVee, who has totaled 46 points in two league games, and Richie Batt, a strong rebounder, provide Hasbestad with plenty of support.
The Crimson dropped into a last place tie early in the week when Yale defeated Brown. Both the varsity and the Elis bosat 1-4 league records. Princeton's one and one record places it in fourth place behind Cornell, Penn, and Columbia.
The Crimson, in its last two Ivy League games has been very impressive. It lost by only two points to Penn, and defeated Brown at Providence, 59 to 55.
