Temporary Deans Run Grad School

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Two assistant deans are in charge of the School of Public Health until the Corporation appoints a new Dean to replace Brig. Gen. James S. Simmons, who died of a heart attack this summer.

The deans are Dr. Hugh R. Leavell, professor of Public Health Practice, and Dr. John C. Snyder, professor of Microbiology. While Simmons was touring the Far East this spring these two managed his affairs. Following his death, President Pusey asked them to remain in this capacity until the appointment of another dean.

The two men came with General Simmons when he became dean in 1946 and worked closely with him during his reorganization of the school. They are heads of their respective departments.

At present, there is no indication who will succeed Simmons, who was Chief of Preventive Medicine for the army during World War Two.
