HDC Not to Give Marco Millions in Graduation Week

"Marco Millions," the HDC's benefit performance for the Harvard Theatre Fund, will not be presented at Commencement as originally planned.

A vote of the Harvard Theatre Committee during the run of "Marco" determined that the mid-June performance for alumni be called off. The vote was four against performing the play, with four abstentions.

The HDC will, however, prepare an exhibit depicting the history of the theatre at Harvard, which will go on display in Lamont by the beginning of next week, to remain until Commencement.

Peter L. Shoup '55, president of the Dramatic Club, said "Marco" will not be give because of "technical difficulties, which I cannot discuss." Shoup added, "I deeply regret that 'Marco' is not going to be presented."

Another member of the Theatre Group who asked that he not be named, said that the sentiment at the meeting was against putting it on because it did not quite come up to expectations. "We wanted to put on a great production," he said. "Marco' was only a good production and so we decided against holding it over."

"Marco Millions" had earlier been intended as a kick-off for the Harvard Theatre Fund, with all proceeds going to the University's newly-founded account.
