Cooney Medalist Again at Hanover

All six varsity entrants in the three day Eastern intercollegiate Golf Association championships returned to Cambridge a day earlier than expected after being almost completely shut out in tournament play at Dartmouth. The varsity's combined score of 623 Saturday barely gave it a two-way tie for seventh place.

Only Ted Cooney's first day, 36 hole total of 143 was a victory for the Crimson. Two strokes better than Holy Cross' John Tosea, Jr., Cooney repeated as medallist in the Intercollegiate. But in yesterday's action, Cooney, who was the only varsity starter to reach the second round of match play, was upset by Fred Hovde, a Princeton sophomore.

McAllister Scores 160

Following Cooney and Thurmond in the opening round scores were Bill McAllister with a 36 hole total of 160 and Jim Jones with a 167. Captain Jack Brophy had 168 and Kent Brown 169.

A typically strong Yale six dominated team play. Posting a total score of 603, the Blue finished 14 strokes ahead of second place Boston College. The varsity plays both B.C. and Yale later this week.

Over the weekend, the freshmen were also active. After beating Dartmouth, 5 to 2, Saturday, the Yardling golfers lost, 6 to 3, to Exeter yesterday.
