Shaplin Joins Office of Dean of Education

New Associate Dean Will Aid In Expended Administration

Overall expansion and correspondingly increased administrative problems at the Graduate School of Education have led to the appointment of Judson T. Shaplin '42, as associate dean of the faculty of Education, Dean Francis Keppel '38 announced yesterday.

The Education School budget has jumped from $225,000 a year to $800,000, and new programs have been initiated. "The whole ting has grown so large that we needed administrative help," Keppel said.

Shaplin will assist in the management of several new fields of research. He will also to coordinate the program for the preparation of teacher and school administration.

Presently the director of freshman and national scholarships, he will assume the post of associate dean and also that of assistant professor of Education on July 1.

Wallace McDonald '43, now an instructor at Williams College, will return here to succeed Shaplin in the scholarship office. Before going to Williams, he had served for four years as an assistant dean of the College and as a tutor in History and Literature.

In additional appointments, Morris L. Cogan, director of secondary school apprentice teaching and for many years a teacher in Trenton, N.J., was named a lecturer on Education.

Robert H. Anderson, now superintendent of elementary schools in Park Forest, III., will also become a lecturer on Education as well as director of elementary school apprentice teaching.
