Renamed "The Makeshift Athletic Club" because of numerous early-season injuries, the varsity baseball team will meet a favored Boston College nine this afternoon at Chestnut Hill.
Sophomore Ned Felton, who saved Bob Kessler's no hitier in the ninth inning last Saturday against Columbia, is scheduled to start for the Crimson. Reliefer John Cooke will be available for bullpen work.
The varsity will still be minus the services of Captain Dick Scheer, pitchers Andy Ward and Ken Rossano, and shortstop Ed Krinsky. Scheer and Ward, however, are expected to be ready for the team's next E.I.B.L. game, against Princeton on Saturday.
John Maher will probably start at first, with versatile Bill Cleary at second, Ray Maesaka at third, and Bones MacKinney at short. Bing Crosby started behind the plate in the Columbia game and may start again today. Another possible starting catcher will be George McDonald.
Prospects for outfield positions are still uncertain except for Don Butters, who will start in right. In left, either infielder Jim Rahal or slow-starting Dick Clasby may get the nod. Bill Chauncey in a probable starter in center:
Last Chance
This may be the Crimson's last chance in its attempt to capture the Greater Boston League's Collegiate title this season. Sportswriters rated the varsity to finish third in the league behind B.U. and defending league champion B.C. The Terriers, who have beaten both B.C. and Harvard this spring, will face the Crimson nine again next Thursday.
The varsity's season record now stands at a mediocre three wins, four losses, and an 8-8 tie against Tufts.
