William' Red Stark, considered one of of the best goalies in New England, stopped more than 20 shots taken by the varsity lacrosse team at the Eph goal Saturday; ten other shots get past him, however, and the Crimson squad won, 10 to 4.
The victory was the third straight for Coach Bruce Munro's stickmen since their return from the South. The win gives the team a four-four record to date.
Munro concedes that goalie Stark was good, but "we were red hot," he reports. The Crimson attack, vaunted as the region's strongest, punctured the Williams defense so often and fired so many shots that some of them had to go through.
Captain Phil Waring, Ed Curtis, and Monk Aiello of the varsity contributed their usual strong offense, but the visitors' scoring was, one the whole, well distributed. Curtis led with three goals and one assist, Waring had two goals, and Aiello one goal with three assists. The other four Crimson scores were tallied by Dexter Lewis, Albie Wells, Karl Bjork, and Skip Baldwin.
Having beaten Williams, the varsity new looks ahead to Yale and Dartmouth as the major remaining obstacles on its path to the New England championship. The team plays M.I.T. here Wednesday, but should not have much difficulty in winning.
Meanwhile, Saturday, the injury-crippled Yardling lacrosse team faced Exeter, its strongest opponent of the season, and as expected was decisively beaten, 11 to 0
