DOJ Sues Boston and Mayor Michelle Wu ’07 Over Sanctuary City Policy
Dean of Students Delmar Leighton yesterday expressed concern over the cutting of Saturday classes and said that the problem has been referred to the Committee on Educational Policy.
Stating that the administrative work of keeping records in each of the Houses and Dudley would be an almost prohibitive administrative problem, Leighton added that while courses meeting Monday, Wednesday, and Friday cause no trouble, the Tuesday, Thursday and "at the pleasure of the instructor" courses have degenerated into twice a week meetings.
Leighton's statements followed a faculty meeting speech by Edwin C. Kemble, professor of Physics, complaining about the number of cuts in Saturday classes, particularly in the General Education courses. Kemble yesterday told students that he would post a list of men who had missed seven meetings in Natural Sciences 2. These students will have to see him personally.
Problem Complicated
Leighton yesterday termed the problem "more complicated than most people think. Right now the attendance is up to the individual instructor--he can do anything he wants, but it can be very difficult to have any kind of regulation in a big upper class course."
Leighton added that the faculty does not want to bother with attendance.
