Wigg East Swimmers Take Freshman Title

Wigglesworth East and Matthews North clinched freshman intramural championships in swimming and volleyball respectively. Matthews North, first in the overall freshman athletic standings, topped Thayer North, 15-2, 18-2, in the volleyball finals.

Winning three events, the Wigglesworth swimming team nosed out Matthews North for first place by three points. The winners amassed a total of 40 points, with Bill Ayer and Dick Sayre taking individual championships. Other swimming meet victors were Steve Wald of Lionel, Brian Wilhelm of Matthews North, and Mike Berger of Matthews North, Wilhelm won both the 100 yard and the 200-yard freestyle.

Relay race honors were shared by Wigglesworth East and Lionel with Wigglesworth taking the 200-yard freestyle and Lionel the 150-yard medley.
