Boxing Continues In House Tourney

Norman Wyner's knockout win over Michael Corrigan and TKO victories by Francis Holmes of Dunster, John Canning of Leverett, Tony Murray of Leverett, and Dick Koch of Adams highlighted the first round trials of the inter-House boxing tournament yesterday at the IAB. Wyner, a Winthrop House middleweight, reached the finals in his division last year through KO's in all his matches. His knockout came after only 40 seconds of the first round.

In the 165-lb. class Canning drew blood from Ken Williamson of Adams, while Fran Ingoldsby of Dunster and Ed Carey of Winthrop won their matches by decision.

In a match later in the evening, Carey also scored a second round victory over Lindsay Fischer of Leverett. In the heavyweight division, Koch defeated George Kinnell of Kirkland, Ruben Gittes of Adams defeated Myron Ricci of Dudley, and Frank Yoffe of Dudley scored over John Flather of Winthrop.

McCarthy Tops Schoenberg

Middleweight Arthur McCarthy of Dunster won a decision over Bob Schoenberg of Eliot, while Holmes and Murray scored their TKO's over Leonard Singer of Adams and Joseph Water man of Dudley, respectively.

Competition in both freshman and House tournaments will continue today with semi-final matches scheduled to start at 7:30 in the IAB boxing room.
