Three Hurt in Blast In Chem Laboratory

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Three undergraduates were injured yesterday afternoon in an explosion that rocked the Mallinckrodt chemistry laboratories. One will undergo an operation this morning.

Charles I. Maidanick '56, the most seriously injured, was rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital, where doctors worked for two hours removing pieces of glass imbedded in his face. One of the pieces, lodged in the cornea of his left eye, could not be extricated at the time.

Albert J. McLaughlin, Jr. '55 was discharged after being treated for cuts about the neck and back. The third student, Peter A. Mattsen '53, who refused hospitalization, is still deaf in his left car.
