The varsity basketball five will attempt to break a six-game losing streak tonight when it meets Brown, last-place team in the Eastern Intercollegiate Basketball League, at 8:30 tonight in the Blockhouse.
The Bruins have recorded only one league triumph, but that was over the Crimson, 62 to 51, in both teams circuit openers. While the varsity has compiled a league record of two wins and seven losses, the visitors have dropped their last eight since the opening win.
Thus, a Crimson loss would drop the team into a tie for last with the Bruins, and extend its loss streak to seven, five in Ivy competition.
The Crimson shouldn't have too much trouble stopping three of the Brown starters, center Bill Arnold and guard Ed Kincaid, both juniors, and sophomore guard Pete Campisi.
But to win, Norm Shepard's erratic team will have to stop captain and forward Lou Murgo, third high scorer in the league with 147 points, and forward-guard Ed Tooley, a junior, second in scoring with 149 points and first in rebounds.
Shepard will probably employ his usual starting lineup with the possible exception of center, where 6-foot 6-inch senior Ed Blodnick might rate opening honors over slumping Harry Sacks.
At forwards, Shepard will rely on defensive star Dick Manning and senior Bill Denuis. Captain Ed Krinsky and Ed Condon should start at the guard posts.
Coach Floyd Wilson's unbeaten freshman quintet seeks its 13th straight victory tonight when it meets Brown in the preliminary game at 6:30 p.m. In their first meeting the Crimson won in over time, 67-66.
Wilson will start his usual lineup, with Captain Bob Dolven at forward. Dolven has averaged over 15 points per game.
