Squash Men Rout Amherst, 8 to 1

The unbeaten Crimson squash team romped to its eighth straight win of the season Saturday by downing a weak Amherst squad, 8 to 1.

Number one man Haddon Tomes paced the varsity with a 15-10, 10-15, 15-11, 17-15 win over Vince Townsend, while number two Larry Brownell gained a 15-6, 15-10, 15-12 victory over Amherst's Don MacDougall. Bill Wister whipped Bob Herd 15-11, 15-5, 18-15; Johnny Rauh beat Ted Widemann 15-12, 15-12, 12-15, 15-7; and Ed Rose topped Herb Coursen 15-6, 15-3, 13-15, 15-7.

Other Crimson winners included Guy Paschal over Jeff Fillman 15-3, 15-3, 15-6; Paul Garrigue over Van Oomes 15-13, 15-8, 15-11; and Bob Brown over Jerry Grant 10-15, 15-4, 12-15, 15-0, 15-9. Captain Mike Ward suffered the only Crimson defeat, a 17-14, 15-10, 12-15, 15-0 loss to Russ Knowles.

During the coming week, the varsity temporarily leaves the intercollegiate ranks. On Tuesday the Crimson meets the Boston Harvard Club Whites at Hemenway. Saturday five of the varsity's top players travel to Pittsburgh to participate in the national squash championships, competing against leading teams from Eastern cities.
