Man Who Managed Clients for High-End Cambridge Brothel Network Pleads Guilty
A University regulation forbidding the appearance of Harvard organizations on commercially-sponsored programs may prevent WHRB from participating with the rest of the Ivy Network in a New York radio venture.
The network, composed of the seven radio stations at Ivy Group colleges, is scheduled to participate on a four-hour program, "Pulse," each Saturday over WRCA, the NBC outlet in New York City. The series is scheduled to begin Jan. 8.
Although the program will not be formally sponsored, Dean Watson has asked for a written description of any WHRB participation. Geoffrey M. Kalmus '56, president of the station, said yesterday that according to Watson, ultimate decision will lie with the Corporation.
Delay Predicted
The regulation reads: "no (undergraduate) organization shall appear on a commercially sponsored radio or television program."
Kalmus explained that any commercial advertising over the program would consist of "spot announcements" and for this reason thought participation might not violate the rule.
Even if the Corporation decides in favor of the station, about a two-week delay is predicted. Since the program does not begin until after winter recess, however, Kalmus did not expect that this delay would hurt WHRB's chances of participation.
"Pulse" will be designed primarily for a New York audience and in addition to brief tape-recorded news from the Ivy Colleges, will include weather, music, and interviews. Edward M. Abramson '57 will direct WHRB's prospective part in the program.
