8 Takeaways From Harvard’s Task Force Reports
A noted plastic surgeon of the Medical School is treating Captain W. Peter Carey, pilot of the Northeast Airliner that crashed Tuesday in New Hampshire, just as he treated him 26 years ago after an automobile accident.
Varaztad H. Kazanjian, professor of plastic surgery, emeritus, operated on Carey in Baker Memorial Hospital in Boston yesterday morning. Carey suffered fractured nasal bones and extensive lacerations on his face, but was reported in good condition last night.
"I don't want anybody but Dr. Kazanjian to work on me," he had told his rescuers. Mrs. Kazanjian explained last night that her husband has known Carey since treating him for injuries suffered in an automobile accident in 1928.
"Since then, he's followed him through the years," she said, "and Peter went through school with our boy."
Kazanjian received a special citation in 1952 from the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons for his "outstanding contributions" to the advancement of its practice. He has also received several other awards, including three citations signed by Winston Churchill.
