Arthur D. Trottenberg, operating manager of College buildings and dormitories, yesterday confirmed that Leverett House will lose its maids at the end of the term.
Leverett will thus be the third House in which student porters are used. Lowell and Winthrop lost their maids at the start of the current school year.
The changeover will be the last until next fall. Trottenberg said. Whether other Houses will then lose maids depends on the number of maids who leave by September.
Last year, the College initiated a policy of not hiring any new maids, gradually filling vacancies instead with crews of porters. Since then, about 10 maids have left, leaving a total of 290.
