8 Takeaways From Harvard’s Task Force Reports
Newly-elected Crimson football captain Bill Meigs last night received a starting position on the Associated Press' All-Ivy League team. Tim Anderson, 1954 captain, who teamed with Meigs at the other guard, was named to the second eleven.
Four other Crimson starters, including two sophomores, were given places on the Ivy squad. Senior and Bob Cochran, junior tackle Orville Tice, tailback Matt Botsford, and fullback Tony Glanelly all got honorable mention.
Brown and Cornell placed three men apiece on the first eleven, followed by Yale with two, and Harvard, Pennsylvania, and Princeton with one each.
The second team was more evenly balanced. Dartmouth dominated it with three players, while Yale had two. The remaining six positions were held by Columbia, Cornell, Brown, Harvard, Pennsylvania, and Princeton.
The first team: ends, Joe Castle (Pennsylvania) and John Morris (Cornell); tackles, Len Oniskey (Cornell) and Jim McGuinness (Brown); guards, Bill Meigs (Harvard) and Thorne Shugart (Yale); center, Jim Doughan (Yale); backs, Pete Kohut (Brown), Royce Flippin (Princeton), Dick Meade (Cornell), and Vin Jazwinski (Brown).
In addition to Anderson, the second team included Dartmouth's passer, Bill Beagle, and Yale's new captain, 205-pound tackle Phil Tarasovic.
Last year's Associated Press All-Ivy eleven had two Crimson regulars on the first team, Captain Dick Clasby and center Jeff Coolidge. Meigs received a position on the second team, while fullback John Culver was noticeably absent from the squad.
