The year's first track meet is more than a month away, but workouts have already started in Briggs Cage, and freshman coach Al Wilson is centering his hopes for a third straight undefeated season around a nucleus of middle distance runners from the cross country squad. Yardling harrier captain Pete Reider leads a group of four from a cross-country team that lost only one meet.

The early turnout indicates that Wilson will be faced with a lack of running depth.
