Pre-Yale Game Parade Due Outside Yard

For the first time since 1950, the College will have a pre-Yale game rally and parade outside the Yard, head cheerleader Richard E. Waldron '55 announced last night.

The rally will begin in front of University Hall at 7 p.m. Friday, and will include a parade, led by the Band, to the Houses. After a circuit of the Houses, the parade will return to the Yard for cheers at the Widener steps. Coach Lloyd P. Jordan and the football team will be present.

Although a similar rally in 1950 resulted in one of the worst College riots since the war, University Police Chief Matthew J. Toohey said last night that he expected no trouble. "No, it should be just a good, gay night, and a happy time for everyone."

Ready Praises Behavior

Nevertheless, one local store has already made arrangements to protect its windows. In the 1950 riot, 13 Harvard and Yale students were arrested, after attacks on trolleys and trucks and the explosion of a number of firecrackers and sky-rockets.

Cambridge police, who granted the permit allowing the parade outside the Yard, agreed with Toohey, however, in foreseeing no difficulties. Chief Patrick J. Ready praised the behavior of College students after previous games this year, and therefore sanctioned the parade.

After circling the Yard several times, the band will march across Massachusetts Avenue, down Holyoke St., and then turn left on Mt. Auburn. It will proceed on Mt. Auburn and Bow past Adams House, and then swing down DeWolfe St. toward Leverett and Dunster.

The parade will then continue on Mill toward Winthrop and Lowell, and after a five-minute serenade at the foot of Holyoke, will return to the Yard.

The actual rally will follow in front of Widener, with the band, cheerleaders, and the freshman glee club performing.
