Varsity Opposes Springfield In Soccer Contest at Noon

The varsity soccer team seeks its eighth win of the season at noon today, opposing a strong Springfield squad on the Business School field.

By comparative scores, the game should be a tight one. Springfield defeated Wesleyan, 2 to 1, but lost, 3 to 0, to Williams, while the Crimson edged Williams, 5 to 2, and bowed, 2 to 0, to Wesleyan in the season's opener.

Since its opening day defeat, however, the varsity has dropped only one game and has won seven, five of these in an unbeaten streak that extends into today's contest. During this streak, the Crimson has scored 18 goals and limited the opposition to eight.

Coach Bruce Munro will start the same team that has opened most of the games. The forward line will consist of Hank Holmes, Marv Weiss, Grey Hodnett, Mauricio Toro, and Bill Linglebach. Captain Carey McIntosh, Stacey Holmes, and Denny Little will open at halfback, while John Hadik and Hugh Sargent will be the starting fullbacks. Lindsay Fischer will be in the nets.

The unbeaten freshman team faces Brown at 11:30 a.m. today on the Business School field. If the team beats Brown today and Yale next Saturday, it will be the first undefeated Yardling soccer team since 1937.

In six games, Coach Poley Guyda's squad has scored 29 goals. An aggressive defense, led by Captain Don Beaver and Louis Felsteiner, has hold the opposition to only four tallies. Injured Shad Tubman, the team's leading scorer, is still unable to play.
