Wingback Lewis Scrimmages Again As Crimson Practices for Cornell

Wingback Dexter Lewis yesterday participated in his first regular football scrimmage since his pre-Massachusetts leg injury. But he carried the ball on only one play. On a reverse, Lewis slipped behind the line before tacklers could reach him.

The defensive unit practiced with moderate success against mock Cornell T-plays run by Norm Shepard's junior varsity squad.

Coach Lloyd Jordan again lined up an offensive backfield, with Matt Botsford at tailback breaking loose on a 50-yard run. Wingback Frank White continued his gaining ways, picking up from five to 25 yards on each carry.

The most thorough workout of the afternoon included the second varsity backfield running against the second defense. At tailback, Jim Joslin connected on two 30-yard passes into the end zone, once to sophomore wingback John Simourian and another time to end. Bob Morrison.

Joe Conzelman called signals at quarterback and Marion Check played full-back.

Meanwhile, the first varsity backfield ran through a 40-minutes signal drill with Tony Gianelly again in as fullback and Jerry Marsh at quarterback.

Senior tallback Sammy Fyock also scrimmaged with the first backfield.
