Student Council to Try To Get Reinstatement Of Late Lamont Hours

Student Council officers this week will attempt to persuade University officials to continue extended Lamont Library hours during reading and exam periods.

Clifford L. Alexander, Jr. '55, Council president, last night expressed his regret over a statement made on Monday by Keyes D. Metcalf, Director of the University Library. Metcalf had announced his plans to abandon last spring's experiment of keeping Lamont open on Sundays and on weekday evenings until midnight.

Council members will attempt to assemble information on the use of Lamont last spring. They will present their findings to the Council next Monday, and then to the Administration.

"We were happy with last year's decision," Alexander explained. "It seemed adequately to solve crowding problems in the House libraries." Alexander stated that the extended hours also made a greater variety of books available to the entire student body and seemed to be a solution to the perennial study problems of freshmen, whose dormitories are often too noisy for concentrated study.
