Garber Privately Tells Faculty That Harvard Must Rethink Messaging After GOP Victory
The "Joe Must Go" movement, a petition for the recall of Senator Joseph R. McCarthy of Wisconsin, will be renewed here and in Wisconsin after the November elections, Stephen S. Willoughby '53 2G, announced yesterday.
Money to finance the new appeal will come from the sale of a book, "Joe Must Go," by Leroy Gore, the movement's leader, published Sunday.
The petition, which 45 of the 70 Wisconsin voters at Harvard signed last spring, nearly attained the necessary proportion of the vote. This fall's vote will be smaller, Willoughby said, making the group of singers a bigger percentage. Each signer of last spring's petition will be asked to renew his support.
