NEW YORK, N.Y. Oct. 15--The undefeated Crimson cross-country team, running in a near-hurricane, rolled ever Penn and Columbia this afternoon for its fourth most victory of the year. The scores were 20-56-60.
Coach Bill McCardy's varsity, touring the Van Cortlandt Park five-mile course for the first time this season, placed three men in the top five for an easy win.
Don French, third is last year's Heptagonals, edged his teammate Al Wills with a time of 27:33. Both runners easily defeated Bill Zhoray of Columbia. Paul Beck, the only active senior on the varsity, surprised McCurdy by finishing a strong fourth.
On the basis of his present form, French should be one of the favorites to win the Heptagonal championship, three weeks from today. Wills, improving weekly, is reaching his expected peak.
Other Crimson runners finishing in the top ten were French Anderson in fourth, Mike Liles seventh, and Ken D'Arcy eighth.
Ralph Perry and Dave Norris, two of McCurdy's promising freshmen, led the field in their race, with Perry recording a time of 16:00.9 for the 3-mile distance. The Yardlings had 18; Penn, 52; and Columbia 62.
