97 Ballots Still Bring No Cambridge Mayor

Ninety-seven ballots in the Cambridge City Council have still not elected a mayor.

After last night's 22 ballots, not one of the nine-man group received more than two votes, three short of the required majority. Previously, the four councilmen backed by the Cambridge Civic Association had polled four votes apiece on different occasions. But last night two CCA men voted "present" on all ballots.

Other men, all Independents, voted for themselves throughout the balloting, except for John D. Lynch, who voted for Edward J. Sullivan on five ballots.

The next meeting of the Council is scheduled for 3:00 o'clock Monday.

"We're all a determined bunch," Independent Charles A. Watson stated last night, "but the long recess may effect some unity."
