Wyzanski Is Out Of Furry Inquiry

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Contrary to reports, Federal Judge Charles E. Wyzanski '27 will definitely not be called to testify before the Massachusetts Commission Investigating Communism, it was learned last night.

Representative Mary Newman of Cambridge, chairman of the commission's sub-committee on education, said "It's absolutely untrue. We have no intention of calling on Judge Wyzanski. The idea is sheer nonsense."

Two Boston papers had reported that Wyzanski, president of the University's Board of Overseers, would be questioned on the policies of a university with respect to Communist professors.

Members of the Commission said that although the report on Wyzanski was false, both Wendell H. Furry, associate professor of Physics, and Leon J. Kamin, a research assistant, will probably be called before the State Committee some time next week.

Yesterday, two State Representatives, Charles Ianello and Richard J. Buckley, said that they would recommend legislation to have "Fifth Amendment" Communists suspended from teaching posts in Massachusetts.

Ianello said that this proposal was aimed directly at the University. His bill would force President Pusey to drop both men "for their disgraceful testimony before Senator McCarthy."
