Eliot and Winthrop won their heats as all even Houses entered crews in yesterday's preliminary races, and four of them gained slots in the championship race to be held next Tuesday.
In the first heat, the Elephants led three House teams over the mile course on the Charles, to win with a 5:47 time. Leverett came in second, by two and a half lengths, to assure itself a place in next Tuesday's finals. In third and fourth were Dunster and Adams.
The highly favored Winthrop House crew streaked down the river a full four lengths ahead of the second place Kirkland in a creditable 5:37. Coming in behing the Deacons was Lowell House.
The first and second place winners of each heat will row the same course next Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. to determine the Intramural champion.
