Yesterday's baseball game proved to be just a tune-up for the Yale game tomorrow as the Crimson nine broke a four game road trip linx by beating Brown, at Providence, 10 to 2.
Sharp Crimson hitting piled up five runs in the first two innings, more than enough for Bob Ward, who pitched the entire game, allowing only four hits.
Ward had a one-hitter going into the sixth when Brown amassed its only two runs. Ward walked seven but struck out nine. His record is now two and two.
The Crimsons got to starter Josephson and two other Brown pitchers for 12 hits. Dick Scheer led the attack with four hits, all singles.
Regular center fielder Bob Smith was out of the lineup after re-injuring his leg over the weekend. Scheer moved from left to the center spot, putting Bob Gremp in left. Don Butters completed the outfield in right.
Yardlings Win
The infield had Russ Johnson at first, Wak Greeley at second, Ed Krinsky at short, and Tim Wise at third, with Dick Clasby going all the way behind the plate.
The victory was the varsity's fourth win against three defeats in the Eastern Inter-collegiate League. Its overall record is now seven wins and six losses.
Meanwhile Bob Kessler gave up only four hits as the Yardlings shut out Cushing Academy, 5 to 6, at Soldiers Field yesterday afternoon. Bill Cleary got three hits and scored twice; John Maher col-two hits and drove in three runs.
