Proctors Squelch Uprising in Yard

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Bursar's cards were taken as Yard cops and proctors put a quick stop to the freshman class' second unsuccessful riot attempt of the spring, last night in the Yard.

The Yardlings, announced by bugles, made their stand at 10 p.m. A group of about 100 gathered in front of Matthews, where brush and branches had been set in preparation for a fire. The crowd began to increase, and other Yardlings tossed firecrackers from their third and fourth floor windows.

While the group grew larger and the noise increased, someone yelled "on to Radcliffe." Then the mob raced up the Yard, past Hollis and Stoughton. It turned right at Holworthy and came to an abrupt stop there when a proctor appeared.
