Trustees of Sarah Lawrence College announced yesterday that they have accepted the resignation of Paul Aron, a permanent faculty member who refused to answer questions before the Jenner Committee.
Aron, who taught a course entitled "Modern European History and the Soviet Union: A Historical and Institutional Survey," denied present membership in the Communist party but refused to testify about past associations on the grounds of the Fifth Amendment.

He resigned while the Trustees were still considering his case. The Sarah Lawrence Board of Trustees said, "In considering the facts of the case, the Board affirmed the position that exercise of the privilege of the Fifth Amendment is not a ground for suspension or dismissal but that this action calls for a careful re-examination of the qualifications of the teacher. In this instance, the faculty member resigned...at a time when no unfavorable action had been contemplated."
At the same time, the college announced that it has cleared Irving Goldman, who teaches cultural anthropology in underdeveloped areas.
