Drizzling rain restricted Jack Barnaby's varsity tennis team to a 6 to 0 victory over Springfield last Saturday on the losers' courts.
At home, a team of Ivy League graduates swamped the Yardling "A" squad 9 to 1, while the '56 "B" team shut out Tabor, 5 to 0.
Midway in the varsity contest, heavy spring rains turned Springfield's clay courts to mud, to cancel the doubles play.
Despite the Gymnasts' swing through the South during spring vacation, they proved no match for Barnaby's more experienced group.
Johnny Rauh won his singles, 6-1, 6-2 for the varsity. Charlie Ufford at number two won 6-1, 6-3, Gene Mann topped his man 6-3, 6-1 at three, and Don Bossart at four took his match 6-1, 6-2. Dave Watts and Steve Sonnabend closed out the play with straight set victories.
In the freshman match, number one Yardling player Ham Graven topped former Crimson tennis and baseball star Al Evert for the only freshman "A" victory. Coach Corey Wynn was pleased with his whole team's showing however. Number one freshman doubles was a set apiece when it was rained out, and the second doubles team only lost in three sets.
