The varsity tennis team travels to Springfield today, favored to win its first match since the completion of the Crimson's Southern trip during spring vacation.
Both the freshmen "A" and "B" squads stay home today to take on a team of Harvard graduates and Tabor respectively at 2 p.m.
Varsity coach Jack Barnaby is taking 12 men with him for the 3 p.m. Springfield match in the hope that his six singles players will build up a large enough load to let him use extra men in the doubles.
Three regulars, Art, French, Alex Haegler, and Terry King will not make the trip, French is in New York checking on his Navy future, and Haegler still has the last touches of a tennis elbow.
Springfield also took a Southern trip this year, but Barnaby says he "does not anticipate trouble." Last year Harvard won 9 to 0, with Barnaby using his lower men in the doubles matches.
Hohn Rauh goes at number one, with Charlie Ufford at two and Gene Mann at three. Don Rossart, Dave Watts, and Steve Sonnabond round out the singles players.
Barnaby will wait for the singles outcome before deciding his double line-up. With French, Haegler, and King out he will have to juggle his usual teams. Herb Stone will definitely play the doubles.
For the freshmen, Ham Graven will play number one, Brooks Harris two, and Conrad Fisher three. Martin Hockscher, Bill Green, and Carl Purnell go at four, five and six.
