JV Nine Loses Opener; Elects Hickey Captain

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

William Mace Hickey, Jr. '54 of Larchmont, N.Y. and Winthrop House, was elected captain of the junior varsity baseball team after the Jayvees lost their season's opener, 6 to 1, to Quonset Naval Base. Hickey is the catcher.

Quonset pitcher Jim Cochran fired a one-hitter against Coach Norm Shepard's team. Joe Conzelman got the only hit, a single, for Harvard.

Shepard used four pitchers, but a combination of three Crimson errors and seven winner hits give the Flyers the victory. Luke Lockwood, Steve Szaras, Dave Lanier, and Hank Hamel all pitched for the Crimson.
