Runners Last In H-Y-P Meet; Freshmen Win

The runners came in pretty much as expected--with Yale on top and the Crimson on the bottom--at the varsity's first triangular track meet with the Elis and Princeton at New Haven.

Bulldogs showed well in all the field events, to score 531/2 points. Nassau took second with 43, and the flu-weakened Crimson brought up the rear at 401/2. The undefeated Yardlings were kept from invoking a slaughter only by injuries, and as it was won by almost 30 points.

Bob Rittenburg shared the individual scoring honors with Princeton's Toby Maxwell and Yale's Bob Price, taking both the broad jump and the high hurdles in spite of an injured foot. His time of 0:07.6 in the hurdles equalled he Crimson's 12-year record in the event.

Crimson Relay Second

The Elis dropped out of the mile relay when second man Larry Reno stretched a tendon, and the crimson pulled in second behind the Tigers, Reno had previously carried off the dash from the Crimson's Bob Twitchell.

Bob Curran and Whitey Black threw the weight for the Crimson to take first and second, and upset Yale's highly-touted Phil Swett.

The Tigers' Joe Maxwell took first in both the mile and two-mile, with the Crimson's Hal Gerry running second in the latter event. Dick Yaffa took the 1000 for Princeton, and Ross Price won the 600 for Yale with Al Howe taking third for the varsity.

Terry Cheek won the shot and high jump, and took fourth in the broad jump for the freshmen.
