Crimson fencers fought their way to a fourth place tie in the epee competition of the Intercollegiate Fencing Association's 56th annual championships at New Haven Yesterday.
Pennsylvania won the epee team title with 25 points. Navy followed with 21 and host Yale won third with 20. NYU's defending titlists and Cornell deadlocked with the Crimson for fourth with 17 points each.
Paul Forand led the Crimson, winning nine bouts against two defeats. Only a play-off-loss to Navy's Don Loring kept him from qualifying for tonight's individual championship bouts. Sam McNair and Les Scherer each won four matches and lost seven.
Today's action includes team competition in both saber and foil events and individual trophy battles.
