Professor Wendell H. Furry is not through testifying.
In a statement to the Board of Overseers yesterday the Corporation announced that Furry "intends to supplement his previous testimony."
In view of this fact," the Corporation declared, "the Corporation have taken no action at this time."
How, when and where Furry would elaborate on what he has told the House Un-American Activities Committee and the Boston press was not disclosed. University officials refused to comment at all, when contacted last night.
Corporation Has Interviewed Furry
The Corporation also revealed that its committee had already interviewed Furry and that all of its members had read the transcript of proceedings before the House Committee.
Sources close to the Administration have indicated that the Corporation is far from satisfied with Furry's behavior. The delay in coming to any positive decision may reflect a disagreement in the Corporation whether or not Furry's contract should be terminated.
Speculation on how Furry would finish his testimony centered on the possibility that the physics professor might get another shot before the Un-American Activities Committee. It is possible that Furry has been advised to give a complete testimony or fact University dismissal.
In Washington, counsel for the House Un-American Activities Committee said it has not been notified formally that Furry intends to supplement his testimony. He said no action will be taken until such notification is received.
President Conant told a Senate Committee last February that he favored discharging professors who refused to tell an investigating body if they were Communist.
