Too bad it's not the other way around.
For, instead of Ernie Beck being out of action tonight when the varsity basketball team plays Penn at 8 p.m. in the Philadelphia Palestra, the Crimson's best, Billy Dennis will miss the game--with the flu.
In his place will be sophomore Paul Shaw. Norm Shepard's team--a definite underdog tonight--will have its four other starters ready. Teaming with Shaw will be Dick Lionette, Harry Sacks, Ed Krinsky, and Ed Condon.
Both the Quakers and Beck are still in Ivy contention, though not at the top. Columbia and its Jack Molinas have taken over the league leadership and scoring lead, respectively.
The six foot four inch Beck--who has set the three year Ivy League record for scoring--will probably be too much for the outmanned Crimson. He led the league in both scoring and rebounds last season, but was sixth in assists.
Penn Good on Rebounds
Quaker junior Dick Heylum is the other scoring threat; he averaged 12.8 points a game last season. The other forward, six foot three Larry Masters, couples with Beck to give Penn a powerful rebounding combination.
Meanwhile, Floyd Wilson sends his once-beaten freshman team against the University of New Hampshire at 3 p.m. in the Blockhouse.
