Bill Clearly racked up two goals and an assist in the first period to break the all-time freshman hockey scoring record, then went on to score three more points as the Yardlings beat Northeastern, 3 to 3, at the Arena last night.

The '55 captain went into the game needing two points to tie the record of 60-set by Doug Manchester last year.

He got the first at 1:30 of the first period on a pass from his right wing Art Noyes. Exactly five minutes later, defenseman Denny Little and Noyes assisted him for number two.

With only a minute remaining in the period, Joe Crehore clinched the record for the former Belmont Hill star by slapping in Clearly's 28th scoring pass of the season. Cleary now has 33 goals and 31 assists in 13 games.

He assisted Noyes, Crehore and Ralph Becket in the second period. Winkle Childs knocked in a Denny French rebound and Little scored unassisted for Yardling third period goals.

Manchester scored his 60 points in 17 games. The '56 squad still has three games left to play.
