Varsity Soccer Team Drops Last Game to Yalies, 3 to 0

NEW HAVEN, Conn., Nov. 20--Yale's varsity soccer team poured a continual barrage of shots at Crimson goalies Pete Briggs and Lindsay Fischer this afternoon and rolled to a 3 to 0 victory before a sparse gathering at Walter Camp Field.

Only a superb individual effort by Briggs kept the score within reason as the Crimson offense fell apart continually within scoring range. Time after time Briggs snatched sure goals away from the Yale forward line, turning in the outstanding performance of the afternoon.

Eli inside left Whit MacQuarrie scored the first goal at 20:50 of the first period. He picked up a loose ball about 40 feet out to the left of the cage and drove it into the upper right hand corner. Briggs was unable to touch it.

Munro Clears Bench

At 11:50 of the fourth period Ed Barlow put the second goal past Briggs, converting on a long boot from midfield.

At this point coach Bruce Munro cleared the bench, replacing Briggs with sophomore Fischer, who let in the final Yale tally by Pete Kohler with less than a minute to go.

The Crimson forward line made a meager total of three shots during the entire first half. The halfbacks were working well however, Carrie MacIntosh played an excellent game, bewildering his defenders with his shifty footwork and sharp dribbling. Denny Little, at center, and Bob Dean at right were standouts on defense, and with MacIntosh managed to keep the ball in Yale territory for a good portion of the game.

Crimson Stymied

Munro substituted freely in the line trying to find a scoring combination. Bill Lingelbach, Godfrey Truslow, Griff Buttrick, and Bill Cowperthwaito switched around in the wing positions. Stacy Holmes, Marv Weiss, Dick Elwell, Bob Lloyd, and Dick Fischer all played at the insides. Only Alex Haegler saw continuous action, but Munro could not come up with the right combination.

Hugh Sargent and Juan Rodriguez handled the fullback positions until the second Yale goal. Rodriguez saved one goal with a beautiful defensive butt when Briggs was out of position. But he and Sargent were no match for the Yale forwards who continually broke through for shots at Briggs and Fischer.

This was the last game for seniors Briggs, Rodriguez, Dean, Elwell, Ed Jacobson, Charlie Platt, and Dave Rogers.

The freshmen lost to the Yale freshmen, 6 to 3. Parker scored twice for the Crimson and Pellus once. Palmer Bannerot had two for the Bullpups
