The freshman football team exploded for three touchdowns in the final period to defeat Brown 27-7 Saturday at Providence. The victory gave the undefeated Yardlings a record of two wins and one tie.
Halfback Jimmy Joslin and the Crimson line, led by Captain Tod Metropoules, combined to spark the freshman victory as Brown was held to one second period score. Joslin figured in three of the four Harvard scores, running for two touchdowns and passing to end Phil Hanghey for a third score.
The final freshman touchdown was a 97' yard run by wingback Ron Eikenberry. Eikenberry intercopted a Brown pass on his own three yard line, then shook off two tacklers, cut for the sidelines, and ran the length of the field to score.
The Crimson line allowed the Brown passers very little time to make their throws. The strong line, coupled with a good pass defense, gave the freshmen five interceptions, while Brown completed only four passes.
Coach Bob Margarita called the line "much improved' and cited the play of Captain Tod Metropoules and other Yardline lineman Joel Chinman, Charlie Panalia, and liob Wyuue, as outstanding.

The Yardings got oil fast in the first period to score on Jeslin's off tackle run from the three and a half yard line. Brown drove from the Harvard 45 to score in four plays. Mathieson went over for Brown on a quarterback sneak.
The Yardlings opened up with all their guns in the fourth period. In the first minute the freshmen scored on Joslin's pass to Hanghey. Three plays later they had turned an interception by quarterback Tony Gianelly into the third score, Joslin running 13 yards for the touchdown. Eikenberry's 97 yard run capped the period.
The same day, the freshman "B" squad beat Belmont Hill 27-20 at Soldiers Field.
