Winthrop Subdues Leverett, 12-0; Lowell Scores, but Loses to Dudley

Winthrop's Puritans, led by Norm Hall, upset Leverett--House football league champions--12 to 0 yesterday afternoon. In the other twilight game, Lowell created a minor sensation by scoring its first touchdown of the season but lost to Dudley, 7 to 6.

Hall had a hand in both Winthrop touchdowns. With eight minutes left in the first period, he tallied on a 20-yard runback of an intercepted pass.

Leverett fumbled the kickoff and a Puritan recovered. After two incompleted aerials, Hall passed 25 yards to Rex Snod-grass in the end zone for the final score. The Bunnies play was ragged and they never threatened against a strong Winthrop defense.

In Lowell's strongest showing of the season, the Bellboys led for the first three quarters against Dudley, after Bob Gebelien tore 45 yards in the first period for the opening score. But the Commuters snatched the game away in the last period on a touchdown and a successful conversion.

In the finals of the freshman intramural football tournament, Weld South upset Hollis, 13 to 12, for the Yard title.

Weld will play Yale's freshman champions, South End, at 2 p.m. tomorrow in New Haven.

The winning score for Weld came with only three plays remaining, on a completed pass play. The ball went from Pete Sterns to Barry Saxe to Don Ericson to Bob Leet who went over to tie the score. Jack Linehan tallied the winning point after on a pass from Sterns.
